30th July is International Friendship Day - a United Nations day to celebrate friendship. Inspired by this day, we decided to ask Mel, one of our customer contact centre managers, about the importance of friendship in the workplace…

Do you have a best friend/close friend at work?

Yes I have many friends at work whom I think a lot about but I do have 1 best friend, her name is Corinne. I have worked with Corinne for more than 10 years! In a previous job & now with CarShop

How important is it to have friends at work?

I think making friends at work is important as it makes coming to work more enjoyable, we spend the majority of our time at work so having good relationships with my work colleagues is essential. In my department, it’s a mixed group of people of all ages, male & female & there is always good banter which adds to a fun & productive atmosphere.  I love being part of a big team & the camaraderie it brings. Also, a plus side is me and Corinne have a weekly carvery lunch date where we can catch up properly!

What makes a great friend?

A great friend is someone who you can laugh or cry with, doesn’t judge you, always supports you & someone who above everything else you can trust & rely on.
