When the weather is great, what better way to spend the day with your family than to have a picnic in front of some of the glorious scenery Britain has to offer?

Here’s a list of some of the best picnic spots in Yorkshire and Manchester. Don’t forget the scotch eggs!

Kirkstall Abbey

Located just outside Leeds City Centre, Kirkstall Abbey is one of the most popular attractions in Leeds. The grounds around the abbey ruins host numerous events throughout the year. Across the road is Abbey House Museum, which features accurately recreated Victorian streets and artefacts from that time.

Nostell Priory

Nostell Priory was built around 1733 and is currently run by the National Trust. Located just 5 miles from Wakefield, the rooms in the house are specially designed, and feature a collection of paintings. Surrounding the house are more than 300 acres of parkland and gardens to explore and enjoy the peace and quiet while you tuck into your picnic.

Fountains Abbey

Also run by the National Trust. Fountains Abbey is one of England’s largest and best preserved monasteries, located near Ripon. Aside from the Abbey itself, there are over 800 acres of woods and gardens to explore.

Reighton Sands

If the beach is more to your liking, Reighton Sands can be found halfway between Filey and Flamborough and is dog-friendly!

Heaton Park

Just outside of Manchester lies Heaton Park, a historic area with attractions a plenty, including play areas, cafes, a tram museum, animal centre and, of course, wide open spaces to explore. The park hosts a wide range of events, so it may be worth checking what’s on, if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle.

Runway Visitor Park

Plane spotters rejoice! There’s a park just for you at Manchester Airport, featuring a picnic and play area and a hanger housing a real-life Concorde to look around, to name a few, all right next to the runway! Note that for the Concorde tour, it is recommended that you book in advance.

Reddish Vale Country Park

Just a couple of miles from Stockport, Reddish Vale offers vast scenery to explore. There are plenty of activities across the park and a butterfly conservation park, which can be found near the visitor centre. Plenty of routes to take, either by foot or cycle, including grassland, woodland and riverside trails. A variety of wildlife can be spotted on and around the river, it would be hard not to miss them.
