Tyre inflators are a pretty handy piece of kit to have in the boot of your car. If you have one of these, then you can easily pump up your tyres at home rather than queueing at a petrol station.

Most tyre compressors have a small analogue dial that shows the current pressure of the tyre as it inflates. The problem with these analogue compressors is that they’re not 100% accurate, and you may end up having to take it off the valve and then replace it for an accurate reading.

Whereas digital tyre inflators don’t have the same issue, and they are still about the same price as the analogue pumps!

So, we tested 3 digital inflators that you can pick up from Amazon, and timed how quickly they could pump up a tyre from 30psi to 33psi.

It’s worth mentioning that all 3 of these have adaptors for other things such as bicycle tyres and toys, so you can use them anywhere!

Here’s what we found:

Megastore 247 Tyre and Tube Compressor Portable Inflator Pump Set for 12 V DC Cigarette Lighter Socket with 250 PSI Digital Gauges and Valve Adapters

This cheap and cheerful compressor is lightweight and isn’t too bulky either, in fact all the cables wrap easily and conveniently around the device.

It’s really easy to attach to the tyre value too as there is just a straight-forward clip to handle. All you need to do is plug it into your 12V socket in your car and use the +/- to choose the tyre pressure you need. Then you need to switch it on and let it do its thing!

The noise level is what you’d expect from a compressor – quite loud. And since it’s so light, it will move around thanks to the vibration.

It’s also not the quickest compressor. It took 1 minute and 10 seconds to pump the tyre up by 3psi. But if you’re not up for forking out a lot of money, this is a decent compressor and will do the job nicely!

Windek B28C 100PSI DC 12V Multi-Functional Digital Air Compressor/Tyre inflator with Vaccuum Cleaner Function

We loved the fact that this funky device is not only a compressor to help you pump your tyres – it’s also a handheld vacuum cleaner.

This compressor is very lightweight and practical too. The cables can be stored into a hatch in the back, so you needn’t fumble putting it away.

Unfortunately, you can’t set a maximum tyre pressure on this pump, but this is only something small to bear in mind.

The speed of inflation is only a little quicker that the cheapest compressor here. It took 1 minute to pump the tyre up by 3psi.

Since it’s also a vacuum cleaner, we gave that a go too. The suction isn’t as good as some others out there, but the convenience of having 2 devices in one is next to none. Check out our other car vacuum cleaner review.

Ring RAC630 12V Automatic Digital Tyre Inflator with LED Light, Adaptor Set and Storage Case

This is our favourite out of all the compressors, and it still costs less than £25!

This inflator is easy to use and has a handy carry case too! It has a built-in white LED light so you can pump up your tyres in the dark should you need to, along with a red light to warn other drivers if you have to inflate your tyres at the side of the road.

Like the cheapest inflator we tested, all you need to do is set a required pressure and it’ll stop inflating once this has been reached.

Compared to the others, this compressor is quickest by far when inflating – it can do 3psi in just 23 seconds. In fact, the manufacturer claims that a tyre can be inflated from flat to 35psi in under 3 minutes!
